There are times when Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is still an effective horror game, like when I find jerky, grainy footage of occult rituals held on the island, or when I pull out the Camera Obscura and find a scary spirit lurking about. If anything, I wanted more of these moments. My original strategy of snapping off rapid shots in a panic was not terribly effective instead, I soon realized I would have to hold steady and keep the ghost in frame, or wait for an attack animation. Trying to snap a photo of a ghost with the Camera Obscura is when the game is at its most tense, and even nearly 15 years after the original release, I still found myself flinching when I faced down a specter. The flashlight also does more than just provide light it highlights key items to investigate and grab. Those motion controls have been adapted for modern controllers, but the flashlight roams around with its own joystick. The original Wii game’s controls had the protagonist’s movement connected to the Nunchuk controller, while the Wii Remote controlled the player’s flashlight. Playing well earns you points, which you can exchange for upgrades and helpful items at save points. As the name Fatal Frame might suggest, these ghosts are of the murderous variety, and the only way to see and subsequently stop them is to take perfectly timed pictures of them with the Camera Obscura. The player has to creep and sneak through the island’s homes and a hospital turned hotel in an attempt to uncover the mysteries of the titular mask. The player has to explore Rougetsu Island, switching between the perspectives of multiple characters, armed with a flashlight and the series’ iconic Camera Obscura. Because this is a Fatal Frame game, this journey immediately goes wrong, and one of the girls is murdered by the vengeful ghosts who haunt the island. Two of those girls are now dead of mysterious causes, and so the three survivors choose to travel to the island together to investigate their pasts - and hopefully save their lives. Five girls were held captive there in their youth, and all suffer from amnesia as adults. Mask of the Lunar Eclipse focuses on a mystery surrounding the fictional Rougetsu Island. Polygon previewed the game’s opening chapters, and it still has plenty of frights in store for players who can get past its glacial pace. This game was once a Wii exclusive, but on March 9, a new version will be released with updated graphics on consoles and PC. There’s the Dead Space remake, of course, but survival horror enthusiasts may also be interested in Fatal Frame : Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Notable amps from this time include the new 4x10" version of the Bassman, the 1x10" Vibrolux, and the elusive 3x10" version of the Bandmaster combo amp-a rare (and expensive) find these days. From this, Fender's amp offering would also expand to include a variety of speaker configurations, such as the 1x15" Bassman and Bandmaster, 1x12" Deluxe, and the highly sought-after 2x12" Twin Amp.Ĭapitalizing on the popularity of the Wide Panel era, the "Narrow Panel" amp came to fruition 1955, and the outward design of Fender amps shifted once again. The rounded grill of the TV Front era became slightly more square, and from this design transition a slough of new amp circuits came to life-among these were the introductions of the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, Pro, and Supercircuits. Or if you're looking for help with Fender amp dating, check out How to date Fender amps.In the early to mid ’50s,Fender segued into producing larger-size amps with significantly wider grills (regard now as "Wide Panel Design"). This indicates that the potentiometer was made the 38th week of 1946, but not necessarily when the amp left Fender's shop. Here's the volume potentiometer code reading 304 4638 where 304 = Stackpole, 46 = 1946, and 38 indicates the 38th week. You can also see the brown chicken head knob which was used on Princetons and some larger amps at the time. In 1971, Leo Fender, Forrest White and Tom Walker formed a new musical instrument company they called Tri-Sonics, Inc. The metal plate appears to have been made from a license plate and is soldered on. Here's the inside of the chassis on the Princeton showing the large replacement blue filter capacitor and an odd shielding plate installed over top of the input jacks. Many, if not most of the Princetons, were discarded as obsolete after amplifier technology greatly surpassed it within only a few years. This was the entry level Fender amp out of three available at the time. It has a very simple set up with two inputs, no tone knob, and one gain knob with the on/off switch located within the knob. Fender’s spaghetti logo was used throughout the 1950s and is so named for its thin, stylized script, which appears in silver lettering with a thin black outline. It's an uncommon variation with no Fender badge on the back. A lower-powered little brother to the Pro and Super models, Fenders 35-watt Vibrolux Reverb is prized for the early breakup of its 6L6 power section and the tight, responsive tone from its 10 inch speakers. Of the two, the spaghetti logo came first. ![]() However, solid amplifier circuit designs for the Brown-Era Fender amps apparently didn't firm up until 1957. This corresponds to the onset of the apparent hiatus in the progressive update/development of the Tweed-Era Fender amps seen annually from 1950-1956. This 1946 Fender Princeton Amp has survived in pretty nice shape and mostly original except for a filter capacitor and tubes. Believe it or not, this amp was found discarded along with some other stuff out by a dumpster. The early woody cabinet Fender amps have become very difficult to find so I was excited to get to purchase this one. ![]() This vintage 1946 Fender Princeton Amp with Maple woody cabinet and red grill cloth is a very rare piece of early Fender amp history (not for sale). ![]() ![]() ![]() Then of course there is the battery life which might mean you need to stop playing before you want to. ![]() If you never tried wired you might not notice it but if you do the comparison you are never in doubt that wired is much more responsive. There will be a slight delay between the movements you do with your hands and what you see in the headset. Ontop of that, you get higher latency (input lag) by going wireless. It is like a very noticeable drop in resolution. Now for those of you who have not done such a comparison, that difference is quite big. In my experience, using Alyx as a test, going from wired to wireless is akin to the loss in definition you get on a 100” projection screen when going from a 1080p Bluray to a 1080p Netflix stream. While it’s true that doing an all-in-one-headset would mean a massive loss in fidelity because by then it would be it’s own console limited to a mobile chipset’s capabilities, you would loose no fidelity by having the PS5 stream games wirelessly to the headset.īecause it’s streaming, that means the video signal would be compressed. There is a bit of a misconception about the benefits of the cable. ![]() Some of the cars will be worth getting just to admire the dashboards in the cars. Each one is a new experience to drive, just like they would be in the real world.Ĭan’t wait to try it out with the added immersion of the headset. It makes it all the more enticing to unlock and buy new cars. Also, with the force feedback and resistance the wheel provides the difference in “feel” between the different cars is so much bigger. I need to relearn how to drive in the game and it is so much fun. But after running several races (in slow cars mind you!) I can definetely see an improvement. I was starting to get quite good with the Dual Sense in GT7 but this feels like starting over again. Wheel, pedals, menu navigation via the wheel stick. Stick on wheel did not work in the PS5 menus. Turned on the PS5 (button on console, important). Plugged a cheap wired PS4 controller into the Drivehub. I have a PS3 compatible Fanatec Forza Motorsport CSR Elite with CSR Elite pedals. You asked about my experience with Drivehub in an earlier post. ![]() |
